• Instructor Requirements:
• 18 year of age or older
• Be of Good Moral Character
• Current Healthcare person preferably but not required
• Current Provider Card in each discipline
• New Instructors will complete all forms via DocHub. Instructor application, Instructor Monitoring forms, and training site agreement.
• As part of Instructor training program new instructors must take Instructor Essentials and attend and pass a Hands on Session; Instructor course and pass with a 90 or higher on Instructor and Provider Exams, Candidates will then observe, and assist in a full class, and then complete a full course under observation of BLS Training center faculty. Once cleared by TCF and Training Site Coordinator, an instructor card will be provided. The training faculty are here to guide you and observe your classes throughout your tenure as an instructor to ensure compliance with AHA standards.
• Instructor Essentials for ACLS, BLS or PALS is Mandatory for all instructors past or present.
• Follow AHA Program Administration Manual, Training Center and Training Site Policies.
• Teaching on your own you should have some form of liability insurance coverage. Hiscox or hpso.com
• Instructor Manual physical or ebook for ACLS, BLS or PALS is REQUIRED you can purchase from shopcpr.heart.org. instructors must use and have the instructor manual available for use.
• All required equipment as per your Instructor Manual.
• Equipment can be purchased from the company, can also be rented to the instructor, and equipment can be financed to the instructor through our affirm partner.
• Attend Instructor Orientation Course
• BLS Supplies if you Teaching any advanced course
• BLS Feedback Manikins and AED Trainers
• Monitored by TCF/Course Director every two years
• Must Sign Training Site/Center Compliance and Instructor policies
• American Heart Association Instructors can bridge over to American Red Cross for free once completed you can teach ARC Classes

• Advanced Instructors must maintain an active base level certification and state licensure to remain an advanced Instructor. (Examples of base level certifications: RN License, EMTP Certification, MD License, etc)
• Advanced Instructors must hold a provider level certification and actively participate and practice there advanced Skills. EMT-Basic, Respiratory Techs, and Medical Techs or Assistants are excluded from becoming Advanced Course Instructors.

Instructors are independent contractors and are not employees or representatives of the American Heart Association or the Training Center/Site. Instructors must agree to not misrepresent themselves.

Quality Assurance/Quality Impovement Policy (New) 2026 –Effective January 2026

Instructor Probation Period
To ensure quality and support your onboarding, all new instructors begin with a one-year probationary period. During this timeframe, your paperwork and classes will be monitored for compliance, which may include unannounced course visits.

Instructor Transfer Policy
To transfer primary alignment to another Training Center/Site you must complete Instructor Transfer Application location in Program Administration Manual on atlas.heart.org. Requests for transfer are only approved on case by case basis, Instructors must be good standing to transfer and Requests must come after a year of active instructor teaching with favorable instructor score and student reviews.

Instructor Alignment and Transfer

Instructors can transfer to the training site by completing the appropriate transfer forms. AHA Instuctor Transfer form must be completed.

Alignment Process

Step 1: Be accepted by the training site. Complete Training Site Application linked below & Pay alignment fee (alignment fee is waved for transfers and veterans)

Step 3: If your Provider card is going to expire this is your chance to renew it. Once your application is approved you will be contacted for phone, zoom, or inperson interview. New Instructors and Renewals You may need to be monitored teaching a class in our office.

AHA Instructor Network

You will be invited to align with us on instructor network, you will have to log on to confirm the invite.

• Please include you AHA 2020 Updates completion and Instructor essentials completion certificate with your transfer or secondary alignment paperwork.
• Instructors should have all equipment that is required to teach the disciplines for which they are certified to teach.
